Programme overview

This 10 week ICT course is delivered in class for beginners with little or no experience of using computers, laptops or iPads.

It will help you become more confident using a laptop, tablet or iPad for everyday use. You will gradually learn more about computer devices and what they can do for you. Learning is in a relaxed friendly setting supported by an experienced tutor.

Gaining new skills and knowledge, making friends, gaining confidence can help to boost your wellbeing and have a positive impact on everyday life.

Programme content

Induction with information, advice and guidance about the course.

• turn your device on/off and use the main control buttons
• type in words and numbers using the keyboard, mouse or touchscreen (word processing)
• connect to and use the internet safely
• search for information, use online services for example NHS online
• learn how to follow your hobbies, favourite TV programmes, shop, compare prices and pay bills on the internet
• learn about apps (applications)
• stay in touch with people - create, send, reply to emails

Who this course is for

Beginners with little or no ICT experience. Anyone who would like to become more confident using a laptop, iPad or tablet.

Experience and knowledge needed

No prior experience or knowledge needed.

Materials and equipment

You can use your own laptop, tablet or iPad or you can borrow a device from the venue if you do not have your own.

A laptop or iPad can be provided during the course if you do not have one. Handouts with step by step instructions are given.

Assessment

By achievement of your personal and course goals- tutor observation and questioning, self assessment, practical demonstrations of ICT use.
