Study programmes for 16-18 year olds


Programme overview
The 16-18 study programme is designed to help nurture and build resilience so that you can explore different vocations and be successful in employment. Learners will be fully supported in developing their employability skills through real work experience opportunities, employment enrichment events and an employability qualification designed to help create CVs and develop interview skills.
Functional Skills qualifications are available in english and maths, helping learners work towards nationally recognised qualifications that will support their career options.
During the study programme all learners will have access to tailored careers development support ensuring that they have the correct skills or plan to advance in their chosen pathway.
Eligibility
The programme is open to young people between the ages of 16-18.
Programme content
The programme has a focus on developing skills for employment or further education:
- maths
- english
- employment and training
- citizenship skills
- health and wellbeing
As part of the programme young people will have access to sessions aimed at developing their skills in english, maths, employability and IT skills. There are also personal development and vocational sessions on offer including cooking technology, careers guidance, healthy living and personal development.
The programme is supported by our dedicated Business Development officer who will work with our young people to identify and secure work experience placements in an area that interests the young person. This will help them to develop those important skills workplace skills.
Prior experience and knowledge needed
No prior experience or knowledge is needed. We will assess the needs of each young person over four sessions to ensure that the programme is suitable and that we can meet the needs of the young person and place them in a class that reflects their current ability.
Materials and equipment
We will provide all course materials and learning resources. On induction you will be able to enquire about our bursary support which is in place to help learners form low-income families.
Assessment
Assessment will be ongoing throughout the year in all classes. In English and Maths learners will be initially assessed and placed in an appropriate class matching their level of ability. Targets will then be set and reviewed throughout the course to prepare the learner for exams young people may complete more formal assessments such as coursework or exams which will lead to a qualification.
