108 hours. Some homework tasks such as practicing at home will help with your development. Course attendance is important so that you do not miss out on valuable learning information.
Programme overview
This course is for anyone wishing to gain independence in a range of cooking skills. You will be using a range of kitchen equipment and ingredients to prepare and cook various sweet and savoury dishes including healthy and European meals. You will understand the basics of food hygiene and health and safety within the kitchen environment whilst cooking. You will build upon previous knowledge and progress to the next stage of independence which will keep you safe while carrying out cooking activities at home, at work, and in the community.
Programme content
A fun course making starters, main meals, deserts, and quick snacks to take home, and recipes to make at home too.
- follow food hygiene practices
- follow health and safety procedures in the kitchen
- prepare and make sweet and savoury dishes
- learn about the fundamental basics around food hygiene and health and safety within the kitchen environment whilst cooking and baking
Who this course is for
This course is for mixed ability adult learners with special educational needs and disabilities. No previous knowledge or experience is needed to complete this course.
Materials and equipment
You will be required to bring in your own apron and storage container to take your products home.
We supply some store cupboard ingredients, all equipment and cleaning materials. There will be a small weekly charge of £3 to cover the cost of additional ingredients and materials.
Assessment
You will be assessed through classroom observations, written and practical work, feedback, peer support and achievable target setting.
