Theatre festival announces its vibrant programme for 15th anniversary

GIFT

Gateshead International Festival of Theatre (GIFT) announces its vibrant programme, marking 15 years of contemporary performance in the North East.

This year marks GIFT's 15th edition as it returns from Friday 2 until Sunday 4 May, with a vibrant programme of creative workshops, exhibitions, immersive installations, new performance, and thought-provoking conversations.

Celebrating exploration and exchange between artist and audience, GIFT brings together UK based and International artists to present world-class work to audiences in Gateshead.

Audiences are invited to experience new performance works at a very early stage, get involved in the creation of new artworks, take part in critical conversations, and explore multiple venues and locations across Gateshead town centre and beyond.

The projects featured in this year's festival offer opportunities to connect with themes linked to climate emergency, environmentalism, mental health, identity, community engagement and play.

Founded in 2011 by Festival Director Kate Craddock, GIFT takes on different forms each year, working in new spaces and locations, and involving new communities of participants.

GIFT provides a place for professional development for artists, and an opportunity for audiences and participants to engage with performances that wouldn't otherwise be presented in the North East of England.

Talking about GIFT, Festival Founder and Director, Kate Craddock said: "During its 15th year I am reflecting on the evolution of GIFT and its agility, perseverance and strength in adapting to the changing landscape of Gateshead, the arts, and the world we live in.

I am proud that GIFT offers an invitation for artists and audiences to connect with different themes each year, and a welcoming environment for them to explore various locations around Gateshead in a way that they might not otherwise.

As a Festival, it opens up an invitation for audiences to have a genuine exchange with artists, and I'm excited to see people connect and engage with artists from across the UK and Canada this year.

GIFT has developed a reputation amongst artists as a place to experiment and test out new ideas in front of a supportive festival community, echoing the Festival's ethos of exploration, exchange and experimentation and I'm excited to see the programme embraced during the anniversary."

GIFT runs from Friday 2 - Sunday 4 May, with audiences invited to experience the festival with 'Pay What You Decide' tickets available across the entire festival programme. The full programme and more information found at https://www.giftfestival.co.uk/.
