The Great British Spring Clean roundup

GBSC

This Great British Spring Clean we have been sharing what we do as your local council to care for and improve the environment around you, educate on our resources available to you and host organised litter-picks around our borough.

The Great British Spring Clean, which runs until the 6th of April, calls on everyone to do their bit to help their local environment by pledging to collect one bag of litter or more. Whether on your own or with family and friends, litter-picking is an easy and fun way to get active, improve your wellbeing, and take care of the environment on your doorstep.

Our environmental services teams have been joined by volunteers from across the council, for our Great British Spring Clean litter-picking events, with another event to come later this week.

  • Festival Park litter-picking event saw over 80 bags of litter picked, gas canisters and tyres removed

  • The Bankies litter-picking event saw over 300 bags of litter picked and huge amounts of fly-tipping removed from the area

'It's heartbreaking seeing the streets of Gateshead like this'

Our environmental services have been sharing what their job roles include, the amount of litter they find on the streets of Gateshead and how we can all look after our local environment.

Watch the videos with the team here:

Hear from the Leader of Gateshead Council here:

We've also been out and about visiting the many communities which keep their local areas looking clean and beautiful.

We recognise the impact of clean, litter-free streets on our residents' well-being and pride in their borough. Therefore, we all have a role to play in making Gateshead cleaner, greener, and more welcoming.

Love where you live and keep Gateshead tidy. Don't litter.
