Chopwell Commemorative Mugs
Decorate a mug to commemorate the anniversary of the Chopwell Lockout using photos and images from Gateshead Archive. Suitable for families.
We are commemorating 100 years since the Chopwell Lockout when miners working at the pits owned by the Consett Iron Company at Chopwell were locked out in June 1925 after refusing to accept a pay cut. The General Strike of May 1926 followed, resulting in miners and their families experiencing extreme hardship as they remained on strike for many long months.
