Stephen's story

For 26 years, Stephen has been a valet for the Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service, cleaning their vehicles. In this role, he plays an essential part in enabling the fire service to maintain their fleet.
Our team have been on hand for Stephen throughout his career whenever he has needed an extra bit of support. Most recently, our team worked with Stephen and the fire service to plan his return to work and commuting to a different base after the pandemic.
Since then, Stephen is thriving once again at his new site and continues to be an invaluable member of his team.
Speaking about his role, Stephen shared: "I have been in my current job for over 20 years, and I still enjoy coming into work! Working gets me out of the house and has allowed me to make friends and earn my own money."
Louise, Human Resources People Partner at the Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service, added: "Stephen has worked with the service for years now and is a really valuable member of the team. He is cheerful, well-liked and always contributes to conversations over the lunch table".
