Community right to bid

Community Right to Bid aims to keep valued land and buildings (local assets) in community use by giving local people the chance to bid to buy them, if and when they come onto the market.

Local assets could be things like:

  • a village shop
  • a community centre
  • a children's centre
  • a library building
  • a local pub

These could be currently owned by the local council or other public body or a private company or person.

How it works

You have the opportunity to nominate public and private land and buildings to be part of a register of 'assets of community value'. If something on this register is offered for sale, the Right is triggered. You then have up to six months to prepare a bid and compete to buy it.
