About
A sculpture developed as part of the external landscaping of the Baltic Place development.
Swirl: Colin Rose
Swirl was commissioned in 2009 by South Shore Road developments Limited, a joint venture company between City & Northern and Robertson Property, as part of the office development at Baltic Place on South Shore Road. The developers commissioned the artwork by Colin Rose as an integral part of the external landscaping of this prestigious new development. Swirl is made of polished stainless steel and is 10 metres high.
Colin worked closely with architects and engineers from Aycliffe Fabrications to produce this stunning sculpture which is a major feature on the quays.
"I developed the work by observing the nature and location of the site over many visits. Swirl represents a vortex, a central point for both traffic and people visiting the development. Its winding form also reminds you of the tidal currents and breezy weather that characterise riverfront locations." Colin Rose
