St James' Boulevard

The new boulevard provides a direct cycle and footpath link between the Gateshead Stadium Metro Station and the Gateshead International Stadium. These panels and railings take their influences from the river and its surroundings. The six sails from Viking Ships used in the design represent Gateshead as seen through the eyes of school children from two local schools. Their thoughts and ideas were transformed into images depicting life in the form of tall ships, market stall, Great North Run and 'under a mackerel sky'.
